I've been looking everywhere - does anyone know of a place with a program of any kind to help with self injury in Utah?? I know people don't think it's common but it is!
Alright, you keep saying to elaborate - um... I cut twice a day usually, and it's getting worse, I go to TWO counselors and both of them have said, "When you work through your anger for the things that have happened then it will stop" which is great... but I've had these issues since childhood with a "first year at colleg" rape ..... I need to stop cutting, and I need to do it in a safe environment - I'm willing to look ANYWHERE in Utah or the close states. I just want a place to go and have people to work with - I've already been to the psych ward here and they don't even give you a therapist, they just have you draw... so I was looking for a place that understands a little more. like S.A.F.E, just closer to Utah -

Yes it is common .No I do not know of any places in Utah that help with self injury.
However, self injury is a way to cope with things. So if you can figure out the underlying reasons as to why, then you can go from there.
Such as , if your self injury is because your stressed out or have anxiety , then find someone to help you with that. If it is depression, then find a professional.
You get what I am saying. Do not just focus on the self injury, focus on the cause of the behavior.

S.A.F.E. has a book that helped me stop cutting. But you have to want to stop! B/c if you don't; nothing will help. Believe me. I tried to stop for my mom, my dad, my friends. And it didn't work. But the second I realized I didn't want to be in that dark place anymore; I stopped. I'm not trying to say it was easy; It was possibly that most difficult thing I've ever done. The best thing I did was make a list of things to do when I wanted to cut. Start at 1 and work your way down until you don't want to cut anymore. If you get down to the last thing and you still want to cut; start at 1. THROW out your cutting tools! Be strong! Write down a list of why you want to quit. A note/letter to yourself that you can read when you want to cut that tells yourself why you can't cut. And don't put yourself in the situation that you usually cut in. Example: I used to cut either in the bathtub or in my room alone. So; I stopped taking baths (showers only) and would not let myself be in my room when I was depressed.
    Example of the list:
    1. Shower til the water runs cold.
    2. Walk for 20 minutes.
    3. Play favorite computer game.
    4. Write in journal
    5. Paint my nails.
    6. Watch favorite funny movie
    7. Call a friend.

GOOD Luck. Stay Strong. And if you need anyone to talk to; please feel free to email me.
